Most of the time Lough Swilly is pet-named Lake of Shadows but sometimes is also referred to as Lake of Thousand Eyes.

At the bottom of this confusion is most likely the anglicisation of the Irish language and its dialects and accents as well as the human factor of understanding, interpretation and most importantly in this context the written result of it all.
